Barnoldswick's buzz of activity in sport, charity fundraising, entertainment, craft, art and music is based on thousands of hours of voluntary work every week. Barnoldswick's voluntary and community groups are the backbone of activity in the town.

Barnoldswick is full of thriving sports clubs and expanding entertainment groups which are voluntary organisations.

This section of the Visit Barnoldswick site is open for community groups to give a brief description of what they do and how people can become involved. With scores, if not hundreds of groups, there's something going on every day of the year.

As the site launches, just a handful of groups have been listed to demonstrate how groups can advertise what they do. If you're involved with a voluntary group please add a listing about your activities. If you want to find out more about activities, or are looking to use some of your time volunteering, please get in touch with the organisations that interest you.

Why we are here?
Our history goes back to the middle of the seventeenth century when the community worshipped in a cottage in Walmsgate. Later there were two Baptist Churches in Barnoldswick, Bethesda and North Street and in 1971 they became one church.
In the mid seventies we opened the Baptist Church Centre on Manchester Road as a multi purpose building.
We have always tried to serve the community and for over twenty years Ickthus Youth Club and the Barnoldswick Luncheon Club met twice a week serving the needs of young and old. The parents and toddler group on a Tuesday & Thursday continue to serve young parents in Barnoldswick.more

The Society was founded in 1975, shortly after the change in Local Government when
Barnoldswick, for centuries a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, became for

The aim of the fledgling Society was to ensure that the history and heritage of the town
should not be forgotten. That still continues to be the Society's principle aim today.
In the year 2000 the Society celebrated its 25th Anniversary by compiling a book of
photographs entitled "Barnoldswick - A Century of Change", a few copies of which are
still available for anyone wishing to know more about the community.more

Enthusiasm is a common feature of group members; gardening experience is not a requirement (though the odd expert is appreciated!) The group works with local schools and other organisations, such as the Garden Gate Association and the Valley Garden group.more

Website: http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/barnoldswicktown/

Description:

We have two senior teams in the North West Counties Football League.

The first team are currently lying 3rd in the Premier Division and are looking to gain promotion to the Evostik league at the end of the season.
To do that the team must finish top of their league and a lot of work had to be carried out to bring the ground up to standard. This entails securing all fences so that the game cannot be watched from outside the stadium. Installing new turnstiles, more seating (50), an outside toilet block and tarmacadaming of the entrances to the ground.

The 2nd team play in the Reserve division of the North West Counties league, and are on the lookout for young players so they can be coached hopefully ready for the first team in a few year's time.more
