Description:

The museum will be open from 11.00 and our two large steam engines will be running at intervals between 13.00 and 15.45.

Come and see the magnificent Roberts engine, with its two cylinders and 16 foot flywheel which originally powered the mill driving some 1,250 weaving looms via its main shaft some 263 feet in length. Bancroft Shed was the last of 13 cotton mills to be built in Barlick when it opened in 1920. It remained in the hands of the Nutter family until 1958 and was the last mill in Barlick to close at the end of 1978.
In addition we have another unique engine rescued from a mill at Bradley outside Skipton. We have been restoring this over more than ten years and it it now once again running in steam.

The Bancroft Mill Engine Trust relies entirely on visitor entrance, donations and membership fees for its day to day running expenses. If you would like to donate, make a bequest or join our band of volunteers to help in this valuable and highly enjoyable work then please contact us by email or speak to one of the Volunteers at the Mill.

The mill site is disabled friendly with ample parking and on steaming days we have refreshments available, along with a range of original souvenirs, the Bancroft DVD and tea towels woven on our own loom.
