Shooting Butts
Shooting Butts
Type: Building
Item Location: Weets Top BB18 5HE

If you walk up Lister Well Road to the top of Weets and take a grassy path to the left through a gateway, you will come across some old shooting butts camouflaged amongst the heather and grass, next to a small pond.

In the past, structures similar to these may have been used by local inhabitants to stalk and shoot wild wolves that used to roam the countryside. Unhappily, the wild wolves were hunted to extinction which is why nowadays in Barnoldswick you only ever see domestic wolves (or dogs) in captivity.

It is well worth the walk through the beautiful countryside above Barnoldswick to discover these hideaways.
