Description:
Intriguing cylinders of stone proliferate in Barnoldswick's Letcliffe Park (and in other places in Barnoldswick).
The stones are cores from a borehole sunk to provide Barnoldswick with a water supply at Whitemoor.
The borehole was commissioned by the Skipton Rural District Sanitation Authority and opened as the first project of the newly formed Barnoldswick Local Board in 1892.
In Letcliffe Park, the cores have been used as detailing in walls or as freestanding columns.
